Islamabad: Pakistan’s new auto policy for the next five years is unlikely to receive final approval until consultations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are completed, raising the prospect of a further delay in its rollout.
The draft of the new Auto Development and Export Policy has been completed, but final approval is expected only after the upcoming IMF review talks.
As a result, the policy remains pending and its formal launch could face further delays.
Sources in the Ministry of Industries and Production said the draft had been finalised but would be discussed with the IMF review mission before being moved forward.
The IMF review team is scheduled to begin its visit to Pakistan on September 23, during which consultations on the proposed auto policy are expected to take place.
The policy is expected to move towards final approval after consultations and review discussions with the IMF are completed.
