Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said the Makkah joint defence agreement sends an important message to the Muslim world and that its positive impact will become evident in the coming period.
Erdogan made the remarks on Monday while addressing a special programme for young people in Türkiye’s Samsun province, where he spoke about progress surrounding the Makkah agreement.
“Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye have taken this step together. There are positive developments and we will succeed,” Erdogan said.
The Turkish president said the Makkah joint defence agreement carried a broader message for the Muslim world and would produce positive results in the future.
Turning to regional tensions, Erdogan said Türkiye was closely monitoring developments in the Strait of Hormuz.
He said serious difficulties were emerging not only around the Strait of Hormuz but also across several parts of the Gulf, adding that the situation could not be treated lightly.
Erdogan said Türkiye wanted to help overcome the challenges facing the Muslim world and was continuing its efforts across the region with that objective.
He added that Ankara wanted the current challenges to be addressed as quickly as possible while efforts towards regional peace and stability continued.
