US Vice President JD Vance has confirmed that the United States has been in direct contact with the Houthis.
According to British media, JD Vance confirmed the direct communication and said the Houthis had assured the United States that the 2025 ceasefire would remain in place.
Media reports said the Houthis told the United States that American naval vessels in the Red Sea were not their targets. However, ships linked to Saudi Arabia were considered targets.
The United States expressed concern over the Houthi advance in Yemen but did not provide military assistance to Saudi Arabia.
The United States designated the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organisation in March 2025.
