Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has decided to take legal action against teachers in cases of poor examination results.
A video-link meeting chaired by Maryam Nawaz reviewed the examination results of Grade 9 students. The chief minister expressed dissatisfaction over the performance.
The meeting agreed to link students’ results with teachers’ performance. It was also decided to take legal action against teachers over poor results, introduce a new ordinance and begin monthly and annual examinations in every class.
Maryam Nawaz directed officials to present a complete timeline and reform plan next week. She also ordered immediate action where the Grade 9 pass rate was below 20 percent.
She directed that schools achieving the best results be rewarded and that subject specialists be appointed in government schools. She further ordered that vacant head-teacher positions be filled within 45 days.
The meeting also approved evening coaching for academically weak students and the introduction of a monitoring app to oversee schools.
Maryam Nawaz sought performance reports from outsourced schools and said teachers’ efforts must be reflected in students’ results.
