Pakistan Muslim League (N) nominee Dr. Najib Naqi has been elected as the 25th president of Azad Kashmir.
The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly held a session to elect the new president, with 45 members voting through a ballot.
Polling continued until 1pm, after which Dr. Najib Naqi was declared successful. He secured 32 votes, including 31 votes from PML-N members and one vote from a member of the Dast-o-Bazu Party.
Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Chaudhry Latif Akbar received 13 votes, while one member remained absent.
Dr. Najib Naqi belongs to the Sudhnoti Pallandri constituency of the Poonch Division. He served as Azad Kashmir’s health minister from 2006 to 2011 and also held the same portfolio during the PML-N government from 2016 to 2021.
