The Qatari government has arrested an Indian IT engineer, Amit Gupta, residing in Qatar on charges of data theft and espionage.
According to the report, Gupta has been in the custody of Qatar’s State Security for three months. The Indian IT engineer is accused of data theft and spying for other states, which are serious allegations.
The report further states that Amit Gupta was a senior official at an IT firm named Tech Mahindra. Qatari authorities have not allowed Gupta’s parents to meet him, and their lack of explanation reflects the gravity of the situation.
According to BJP MP Hemang Joshi, Gupta’s parents tried to meet their son in Qatar, but the Qatari authorities rejected their request.
This is not the first instance of Indian spies being detained in Qatar. In 2022, Qatari security sentenced eight Indian Navy personnel to death for spying for Israel.
These personnel had provided sensitive submarine-related information to Israeli intelligence. They were sentenced to death in 2023 but were released in February 2024 on the orders of the Emir of Qatar.
