In light of rising electricity tariffs and the promotion of clean energy, the Sindh government has announced a new initiative to provide free solar systems to domestic consumers who use up to 100 units of electricity per month.
This initiative has been introduced by the Sindh Energy Department, aiming to ease the financial burden of electricity bills on low-income households and support them in switching to alternative energy sources.
Under this scheme, eligible families can apply to receive free solar panels by August 20, 2025. According to official sources, over 123,000 applications have already been received from across the province.
Officials stated that if the number of applications exceeds the available quota, beneficiaries will be selected through a transparent ballot to ensure fairness.
A spokesperson from the Energy Department said the program is part of the provincial government’s broader policy to reduce dependency on the national grid, lower energy costs, and promote the use of renewable energy. Citizens who meet the eligibility criteria are strongly encouraged to submit their applications before the deadline to avail of this facility.
