An airport ground staff employee has been arrested at Kempegowda International Airport in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru after a Korean woman accused him of sexual harassment, with further details of the incident now emerging.
According to Indian media reports, the Korean woman was present at the airport on January 19 to board a flight to Korea. After clearing immigration, an airport employee asked to see her ticket and claimed that there was an issue with her luggage, stating that the scanning machine had triggered an alarm.
Reports said the accused told the woman that returning to the security counter would waste time and could cause her to miss her flight. Using this excuse, he allegedly took her near the men’s washroom, where he sexually harassed her and conducted an inappropriate search.
Immediately after the incident, the Korean woman informed airport security officials, who took the suspect into custody and handed him over to the police.
Police said that after reviewing CCTV footage, a case was registered against the airport employee and he was formally arrested, while further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
