Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has announced that China will send a special envoy to the Middle East to help mediate and reduce the ongoing tensions in the region.
Wang Yi held telephone conversations with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates regarding the situation and emphasized the importance of restraint and peaceful resolution of disputes.
He stated that China appreciates Saudi Arabia’s stance of patience and its efforts to resolve differences through peaceful means, urging all parties in the region to play a constructive role in reducing tensions.
Wang Yi also stressed that the protection of civilians must remain a red line in any conflict and that attacks on energy infrastructure and other civilian targets should be avoided.
He further emphasized that maritime routes must remain secure for global trade and urged all parties to ensure the safety of major international shipping lanes.
