United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has warned that the risk of nuclear weapons being used is currently at its highest level in decades. He urged global leaders to take immediate steps to reduce rising tensions.
Guterres said the dream of global peace is under serious threat and failure to de-escalate current tensions could lead to devastating consequences. He added that growing conflicts around the world are driving an increase in military spending, while advanced technology is making modern warfare more lethal.
He also expressed concern about the global situation arising from disruptions to energy supplies.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that rising oil and gas prices have a direct impact on economies and affect multiple sectors worldwide.
