US President Donald Trump has responded to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s request for a two-week extension of the deadline for Iran, adopting a cautious stance.
According to media reports, President Trump stated that he has not yet received a complete briefing on the issue but added that he knows Shehbaz Sharif well and considers him a highly respected figure.
The US President made these remarks during a brief conversation with American journalist Jacqui Heinrich, where he said that the situation remains sensitive and intense negotiations are currently underway, he cannot share further details at this stage.
It is worth noting that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had appealed to President Trump to grant a two-week extension in the deadline for Iran. In his statement, he said that diplomatic efforts are continuing effectively for a peaceful resolution of the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, and positive developments are expected soon.
The Prime Minister further urged that diplomacy should be given a chance and strongly requested a two-week extension in the deadline, while also calling on Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
It is important to note that only a few hours remain before the US President’s deadline for Iran, while countries including Pakistan, Türkiye, and Egypt are actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire.
