Following the ceasefire announcement by the US President, Iran has also declared that the Strait of Hormuz will be opened for all for a period of two weeks, marking a significant step toward reducing regional tensions.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, referring to a statement approved by the National Security Council, said that on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran, he is grateful to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their tireless diplomatic efforts to end the conflict in the region.
Abbas Araghchi further stated that Iran has accepted the US request for negotiations in light of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s appeal and 15-point proposals, while US President Donald Trump has also agreed in principle to Iran’s 10-point proposals under a general framework.
He said that based on this understanding, the Supreme National Security Council of Iran has stated that if attacks on Iran are halted, Iran’s armed forces will also stop their defensive operations.
The Iranian Foreign Minister added that in coordination with the Iranian military, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be ensured for two weeks, although certain technical considerations will need to be observed.
