Tehran: Iran has rejected allegations by the US secretary of state regarding Yemen’s Houthi Ansar Allah group, saying Washington must end what Tehran described as destabilising interference in the region if it genuinely seeks peace.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Ansar Allah was an independent Yemeni organisation that made its own decisions.
Rejecting the US allegations, Baghaei said Ansar Allah neither took orders from another country nor acted as anyone’s proxy.
He argued that US military intervention and what he described as Washington’s hegemonic policies were at the root of instability in the region.
Baghaei said that if the United States genuinely wanted peace, it should end interventions that contribute to regional instability.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson added that peace in Yemen could not be achieved through bombs or external pressure.
He said lasting peace could only be achieved through genuine negotiations based on a roadmap agreed upon by all parties.
