A wave of celebration was witnessed in Beirut after the 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon officially came into effect, with people taking to the streets and aerial firing heard in several areas of the capital.
The ceasefire was announced by US President Donald Trump on Thursday, under which both sides agreed to temporarily halt hostilities in an effort to reduce tensions and restore stability.
According to US officials, the primary objective of the ceasefire is to ease rising tensions and pave the way for negotiations toward a more permanent peace agreement, while the development is also linked to Iran-backed group Hezbollah, a key party in the conflict.
Sources indicate that the ceasefire is expected to bring temporary calm to the region, although experts believe that sustained diplomatic efforts will be required to maintain this progress.
