Iranian women footballers Fatemeh Pasandideh and Atifeh Ramzanizadeh, who have sought refuge in Australia, have expressed their gratitude to the Australian government, stating that they have found a safe haven where they intend to rebuild their lives and look forward to a better future.
In their first public statement issued on Friday, both players said that the compassion and support extended by the Australian government and local community have not only encouraged them but also given them the confidence to live in a secure environment, where they can continue their lives without fear and pursue their sporting careers.
They further stated that this opportunity represents a new beginning for them, allowing them to reorganize their personal and professional lives and continue striving to achieve their goals.
The players had arrived in Australia earlier this year during the Women’s Asian Cup but decided not to return to Iran due to serious concerns regarding their safety, opting instead to seek a secure future in Australia.
