Federal Law Minister expresses concern over requests against the Practice and Procedure Bill 2023 in the Supreme Court, stating that a selective bench has been formed to hear the requests before the law is passed.
While holding a press conference with the leaders of the parties in the government coalition in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Law Nazir Tarar said that it is intended to discuss the current situation because there are many rumors and there are question marks and also discussed the position. That is why he is talking to the media with the leaders of the coalition parties in the National Assembly and the Senate.
He expressed deep regret and sorrow that an unusual thing has happened today, and a request has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the Practice and Procedure Bill 2023, which has been approved by the National Assembly and Senate and sent to the President, who returned it. After discussion in a joint session, it was sent back to the President for approval.
He said that under the Constitution, the President can review it for another ten days until April 19 or 20. If he does not sign, it will not be passed as an Act of Parliament. Before passing the law, a request was filed in the Supreme Court, and it was set for a hearing.
Azam Nazir Tarar said that an 8-member bench was constituted for the hearing, we have seen in the past that it is never appointed for hearing before the legislation is enacted.
If it becomes a law then it can be challenged and it will become a citizen’s right.
He said that the way this case was decided in haste and this bench was formed, the demand was repeatedly repeated by the parliament and political parties and also by the bar councils and it was done on many occasions in the last one year.
