Despite an official ban, the sale of reusable syringes in Pakistan continues, raising serious concerns regarding public health and infection control systems.
According to reports, fake auto-disable syringes are also circulating in the market, which are falsely labeled as single-use but can actually be reused multiple times, posing significant health risks to patients.
Sources revealed that such syringes have been obtained from multiple cities, including Peshawar, Multan, and Jacobabad, indicating the widespread presence of these unsafe medical products.
It has further been disclosed that most of these reusable syringes are being manufactured and distributed from the Gadun Amazai Industrial Zone in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, from where they are supplied to different parts of the country.
Sources also stated that untrained practitioners often reuse the same syringe multiple times for minor charges, increasing the risk of spreading dangerous infections among patients.
Health experts warned that the use of fake safety syringes is undermining the infection control system, while regulatory authorities have stated that action will be taken against the sale of such syringes despite the ban.
