Authorities in Colombo, Sri Lanka, have carried out a major operation at an airport, arresting 22 Buddhist monks accused of attempting to smuggle more than 110 kilograms of cannabis, drawing significant attention to the case.
According to officials, the operation was conducted at Bandaranaike International Airport, where security personnel discovered a large quantity of drugs during the inspection of suspicious luggage, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspects.
Reports indicate that legal proceedings have been initiated against those arrested, while further investigations are underway to identify additional links and facilitators involved in the smuggling network.
Authorities also stated that, following the incident, stricter security measures are being considered at airports to prevent such activities in the future.
