Karachi’s water transmission system has been affected after a power outage at the Dhabeji Pumping Station disrupted operations of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation.
The disruption has raised concerns over a possible reduction of around 100 million gallons per day in water supply to Karachi.
According to a KWSC spokesperson, the power suspension affected the K-2 pump house, causing technical faults in the main fold chamber and central valves.
The spokesperson said work to remove accumulated water from the affected valves is underway on an urgent basis, after which repair work will immediately begin.
Technical teams of the water corporation have been directed to carry out emergency repairs, while engineers and maintenance staff are present at the site.
According to the spokesperson, teams are working to resolve the technical fault and restore the water supply as soon as possible.
Three major pumps at the K-2 pumping station have been temporarily shut down due to the technical fault.
KWSC said the shutdown could affect around 100 million gallons, or 10 crore gallons, of Karachi’s daily water supply.
