QatarEnergy has extended the force majeure imposed following an attack on the Ras Laffan LNG production complex by another month.
The force majeure period has now been extended until the end of August 2026.
As a result of the extension, Pakistan is being forced to import expensive liquefied natural gas from the spot market to meet its domestic gas requirements.
Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Ali Pervaiz Malik said the government expects LNG cargo supplies under Pakistan’s long-term agreement with Qatar to return to normal if the force majeure ends in September.
The government hopes that the resumption of regular LNG supplies from Qatar will reduce Pakistan’s reliance on costly purchases from the international spot market.
