The federal government has increased the petroleum levy on petrol by a total of Rs15.86 per litre within just one week.
According to official figures, had the government not increased the petroleum levy, the current petrol price would have been Rs15.86 per litre lower.
In that case, petrol would have been priced at Rs294.85 per litre instead of the current Rs310.71 per litre.
Official data shows that the petroleum levy on petrol stood at Rs64.14 per litre until July 3.
The government then increased the levy by Rs6.22 per litre from July 4, followed by another increase of Rs9.64 per litre from July 11.
Following these two revisions, the petroleum levy on petrol has reached Rs80 per litre.
Under the latest pricing notification, petrol is currently being sold at Rs310.71 per litre across Pakistan.
