According to experts, Pakistan’s annual population growth rate stands at 2.55 percent, with the country’s total population reaching approximately 257.2 million.
Statistics indicate that Pakistan has the highest birth rate in South Asia.
Experts say the country’s resources are failing to keep pace with the rapidly increasing population, leading to growing economic and social challenges.
They added that continued population growth is placing increasing pressure on education, healthcare, employment, housing and other essential public services.
Sources said government efforts to control population growth have not produced the desired results, while provincial population welfare departments continue to face administrative difficulties.
According to sources, the Punjab Population Welfare Department is dealing with significant administrative and staff integration challenges, while basic facilities remain inadequate in several areas.
Experts stressed the need for stronger public awareness campaigns, effective policies and expanded family planning programmes to slow population growth.
