US President Donald Trump has dismissed reports suggesting that the United States is facing shortages of weapons and ammunition during the conflict with Iran, insisting that the country possesses more military equipment than any other nation.
Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, Trump said the United States has more weapons than any country in the world and even more than it currently needs.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine had informed the White House about declining stocks of interceptor missiles used in air defense systems.
According to the report, General Caine warned that resuming large-scale military operations against Iran could significantly deplete US missile inventories.
The newspaper also quoted an unnamed senior US official as claiming that the strikes on Iran had produced unintended consequences by strengthening domestic unity within Iran and allowing its leadership to focus public attention on external threats.
While President Trump rejected reports of any weapons shortage, the US government has not issued any additional official statement regarding the claims contained in the Wall Street Journal report.
