Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei says messages continue to be exchanged between Iran and the United States through mediating countries, including Pakistan and Qatar, while stressing that Iran’s top priority remains defending its sovereignty.
Speaking to an Austrian broadcaster, Baghaei said indirect communication between Tehran and Washington is continuing through intermediary states rather than direct talks.
He claimed that Iran had fulfilled its commitment under a reported memorandum of understanding to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days. However, he alleged that before the agreed period had ended, the United States launched new attacks, citing reported maritime incidents as justification.
Baghaei further claimed that this was the third time in the past year that military action had disrupted Iran’s diplomatic efforts during a period of negotiations.
He also alleged that the United States has yet to release Iran’s frozen assets as outlined in the reported memorandum of understanding.
The United States has not immediately responded publicly to the claims made by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
