Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and adviser to the prime minister Rana Sanaullah has claimed that his party has secured a simple majority in Azad Kashmir and is in a position to form the next government.
Addressing a press conference alongside Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Affairs Amir Muqam, Rana Sanaullah said the elections in Azad Kashmir were conducted transparently and that voters had expressed confidence in the vision of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
He said that elections were held for 20 seats during the second phase, with the PML-N winning 13 of them, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secured three seats.
According to him, the PML-N also won 10 out of 12 seats reserved for refugees, while the PPP emerged victorious in the remaining two constituencies.
Rana Sanaullah stated that the incoming government would work to address public concerns and fulfil the commitments made to the people of Azad Kashmir.
He also alleged that some PPP supporters, along with members of an action committee, were involved in unrest in Muzaffarabad and claimed that the resulting disturbances affected voter turnout in certain areas.
The Pakistan Peoples Party and other parties mentioned in the allegations have not yet issued an official response.
