Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that creating new provinces is a complex matter and that such proposals appear to be an attempt to divert attention from the country’s pressing issues.
Speaking at a press conference in Quetta, he said the idea of establishing new provinces was not objectionable in itself, but the country’s administrative structure and overall situation should be carefully considered before any decision was made.
Fazlur Rehman also commented on recent remarks attributed to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, saying such statements could not have been made without consultation with the prime minister.
He called on Mahmood Khan Achakzai to convene a meeting of the joint opposition to discuss the country’s political situation and said his party would arrange a meeting if no initiative was taken.
The JUI-F leader also expressed concern over the state of democracy, the role of parliament and the lack of a comprehensive national policy to address the country’s challenges.
He further discussed the security situation in Balochistan and developments in Kashmir, saying that the use of force could not provide a lasting solution to national issues.
The federal government has not yet issued an official response to his remarks.
