Federal Minister for Defence Production Raza Hayat Harraj has said that he has long supported the creation of new provinces and believes that additional administrative units would strengthen the federation.
In his statement, Harraj endorsed recent remarks by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, saying that new administrative units would improve governance and help address regional issues more effectively.
He said better administrative arrangements would lead to improved public services and accelerate development efforts. According to Harraj, Mohsin Naqvi’s position on the matter was justified.
The minister also expressed confidence that progress on the issue could be made under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief whip Malik Amir Dogar also voiced support for the proposal, saying there was broad consensus regarding the establishment of a separate province in southern Punjab.
He argued that a new province would help address long-standing grievances and promote economic development in the region.
Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker Agha Rafiullah said that a resolution in support of a South Punjab province had already been approved by the assembly with a two-thirds majority. He added that the Constitution requires the consent of the relevant provincial assembly before any changes can be made.
The debate over the creation of new provinces continues as political parties present differing views on the issue.
