Karachi: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has condemned incidents of arson and vandalism in Karachi, saying it is regrettable to create unrest in the city for political purposes.
In a statement, Memon said no one would be allowed to hold the city hostage in the name of protest, adding that spreading fear and panic under the cover of demonstrations amounts to challenging the law.
He said Jamaat-e-Islami has the right to protest, but miscreants cannot be allowed to damage public property.
The senior provincial minister warned that those challenging the writ of the state would be dealt with firmly, while individuals involved in setting fires, blocking roads and damaging property would be brought to justice.
Memon said protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the government’s foremost responsibility.
