Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said export-led economic growth remains a top priority for the government and directed officials to review the possibility of extending the super tax exemption for exporters.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of prominent industrialists and business leaders, where proposals aimed at promoting export-led growth were discussed.
Shehbaz Sharif welcomed suggestions from the business community, saying the meeting was intended to consult stakeholders on ways to strengthen an export-driven economy.
He said the government was taking effective measures to improve the ease of doing business, while reducing energy costs remained among its key priorities.
The prime minister said fundamental economic reforms had been undertaken through consultation despite difficult circumstances.
He added that the Federal Board of Revenue had recovered Rs800 billion through enforcement measures over the past year.
Shehbaz Sharif said efforts by the government’s economic team had resulted in a significant improvement in Pakistan’s macroeconomic conditions. However, he stressed that further work was needed at the microeconomic level to ensure that the benefits of economic improvement reached ordinary citizens.
The prime minister also directed relevant authorities to review an extension of the super tax exemption for exporters, reiterating that export-led economic growth remained one of the government’s foremost priorities.
