Islamabad: Details have emerged showing that new long-term agreements of up to 30 and 40 years have been signed with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), despite government claims of reviewing old contracts and reducing the country’s reliance on such arrangements.
Information regarding the duration and expiry of agreements with various IPPs has also surfaced, revealing that the incumbent government signed new agreements with four IPPs in 2025.
According to the available details, the government signed a 30-year agreement with the Jamshoro Coal Power Plant on July 30, 2025.
The details indicate that some agreements with power producers extend for periods ranging from 30 to 40 years.
