Madinah: Saudi Arabia has announced the discovery of an estimated 110 million tonnes of raw mineral resources in the Madinah region containing uranium and other rare minerals.
According to a foreign news agency, Saudi state television reported on Monday that Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman formally announced the discovery while addressing the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) General Conference in Vienna, Austria.
Arab media reported that Prince Abdulaziz said drilling and geological exploration at the Jabal Sayid project in Madinah had revealed estimated resources of around 110 million tonnes of raw mineral material.
The Saudi energy minister said the deposits contained rare minerals as well as uranium.
The announcement was made during the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, attended by representatives from countries around the world involved in nuclear energy and related sectors.
