Twenty-seven employees of Karachi’s Dow University of Health Sciences have been found to hold fake academic degrees, prompting an order to recover all salaries paid to them.
The Sindh Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee met under Chairman Nisar Khuhro to review the university’s audit observations for 2024 and 2025.
Committee members Qasim Soomro and Makhdoom Fakhar-uz-Zaman attended the meeting, along with Dow Medical University Vice Chancellor Nazli Hussain and other relevant officials.
According to the committee’s statement, the meeting was informed that 27 university employees had fake academic degrees. The university administration had yet to obtain Higher Education Commission verification of the degrees of 3,400 out of its 5,350 employees.
The committee ordered the recovery of all salaries from the 27 employees whose degrees were found to be fake. It also sought reports from all public universities on the verification of degrees held by academic staff and other employees.
The university’s director of finance told the meeting that the degree verification process had been outsourced to HRSG under a contract worth Rs7.36 million.
He said the degrees of 1,945 of the university’s 5,350 employees had been verified, with 27 found to be fake.
According to the director of finance, all 27 employees had been dismissed from service.
