The United States has announced its support for Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism.
During a press conference, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated that the Pakistani people have suffered greatly from terrorist attacks. No country should fall victim to such terrorism. It is in the mutual interest of both the United States and Pakistan to address regional security threats. Miller expressed concern over the recent violence resulting in casualties in Swat and extended condolences to the affected families, while wishing speedy recovery for the injured.
Miller further emphasized that incidents of religiously motivated violence are worrisome and any form of violence or threats of violence are unacceptable. The US State Department spokesman also highlighted the importance of respecting human rights, religious freedom, freedom of expression, and promoting peaceful societies in Pakistan. He noted ongoing discussions in Pakistan regarding religious freedom, treatment of minorities, and human rights issues, supporting actions that promote governance under law and protection of human rights.
