President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the Election (Amendment) Bill 2024.
The amendment bill introduces changes to Section 140 of the Election Act 2017. With this amendment, appointing a serving judge to the election tribunal will require consultation with the Chief Justice of the relevant High Court. The President approved the bill under Article 75 of the Constitution.
Following the President’s approval, the election bill has become an Act. The Election Amendment Bill was passed by the National Assembly on June 28 and by the Senate on July 4.
