Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has officially notified the multi-year tariff for K-Electric from 2023 to 2030, disregarding the federal government’s request for a review.
According to the notification issued by NEPRA, separate rates have been set for the supply, transmission, and distribution of electricity by K-Electric. Under the new tariff structure, the average electricity supply price has been fixed at Rs 39.97 per unit, while the distribution tariff is set at Rs 3.31 and the transmission tariff at Rs 2.86 per unit.
It is worth mentioning that the federal government had formally filed an appeal against NEPRA’s multi-year tariff decision. The Power Division had strongly objected to certain special concessions granted to K-Electric. However, NEPRA went ahead and notified the new tariff even before delivering a verdict on the federal government’s appeal, raising concerns of deepening rifts between the regulatory authority and the central government.
