Islamabad: The ongoing monsoon rains and resulting floods have caused widespread destruction across the country, with each passing day bringing more loss of life, property damage, and infrastructure collapse.
According to the latest report issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), five more people lost their lives in the last 24 hours due to rain and flood-related incidents. This brings the total number of fatalities during the current monsoon season to 221.
The report states that four of the recent deaths occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while one person died in an incident in Sindh. In addition to the fatalities, 10 more people were injured in various accidents during the past day, raising the total number of injured individuals to 592.
NDMA further reported that a total of 804 houses have been either completely destroyed or partially damaged, leaving numerous families homeless and exposed to harsh weather conditions. Moreover, over 200 livestock have perished, adding to the economic burden in rural communities.
The report also highlighted that nine bridges in different regions have collapsed due to floodwaters, and approximately 10.5 kilometers of roads have suffered severe damage. These disruptions are hampering transportation and delaying relief efforts in affected areas.
