Polling is underway for Senate elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which will continue uninterrupted until 4 PM. A tough competition is expected among the candidates in both provinces, with political parties actively working to strengthen their positions.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a total of 22 candidates are contesting for 11 Senate seats, including 7 general, 2 women, and 2 technocrat seats. Fourteen candidates are vying for the 7 general seats. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly consists of 92 government members and 53 opposition members. 6 seats will likely go to the government and 5 to the opposition.
Yesterday, 25 members who were elected on reserved seats in the provincial assembly took their oaths, including 21 women and 4 minority representatives. The oath was administered by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi.
In the Punjab Assembly, polling is being held for a by-election on a single vacant Senate seat, which was left empty following the death of Senator Sajid Mir. The assembly hall has been designated as the polling station. Out of the 371 members of the Punjab Assembly, 369 are eligible to vote. Hafez Abdul Kareem is the candidate from PML-N, while Mehar Abdul Sattar is representing the opposition. Independent candidates Khadija Siddiqui and Ejaz Hussain are also contesting.
