The father of Aurangzeb Alam, who jumped into the sea at Karachi’s Do Darya along with his two children, has held his daughter-in-law responsible for pushing his son towards suicide.
Speaking to a private TV channel, Aurangzeb’s father revealed that his son held a master’s degree and ran a school. He said that Alam married a girl of his choice in 2015, who later became the school’s principal. The couple had three children: two sons and a daughter.
The father alleged that just three days after the marriage, his son caught his wife speaking to another man over the phone, which led to a major argument. Within two months, the in-laws separated Alam from his family. He further claimed that multiple affairs involving the daughter-in-law surfaced over time.
He stated that about three to four months ago, the daughter-in-law developed a relationship with Alam’s paternal cousin, a fact known to both families. To maintain peace and his son’s happiness, the family chose to stay silent. However, the school staff eventually informed Alam about his wife’s conduct, leading to another confrontation. She moved back to her parental home, issued a separation notice, and demanded custody of the children.
According to Aurangzeb’s father, just days before the incident, the police raided their house and took the family to the station. The next morning, during a court hearing, the judge ruled that the children would stay with their mother. Devastated by the decision, Alam pleaded for reconciliation and apologized to his wife. In response, she demanded that he transfer the school to her name, provide a separate residence, and allow her to live without restrictions. He agreed to the terms and informed his family, but the next day, the tragedy occurred.
It is worth noting that earlier this month, a man jumped into the sea at Do Darya with his two children, and all three bodies were later recovered. Eyewitnesses reported that the man appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Though bystanders tried to save them, they were unsuccessful.
