In a meeting held in Doha between President Asif Ali Zardari and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, important discussions were held on promoting bilateral relations and regional cooperation. The Emir of Qatar termed the Arab defense agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia as a welcome and timely step.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Pakistani ambassador also attended the meeting. President Zardari conveyed the message of good wishes from the government and people of Pakistan to the Emir of Qatar.
According to a statement issued by the Qatari Emirate House, the two leaders expressed their determination to further strengthen the brotherly and historical relations. President Zardari appreciated Qatar’s hosting of the Afghan peace talks and its positive role in Afghanistan, while the Emir of Qatar expressed hope that Pakistan will overcome the current challenges in the region and continue on the path of stability.
President Zardari proposed increasing cooperation in the fields of defense, defense production, agriculture, and food security, to which the Emir of Qatar agreed and directed the relevant authorities to immediately contact him.
The Emir of Qatar praised the role of the Pakistani community and expressed his desire to increase its number. He said that Pakistan has a unique position that has balanced relations with China, the West, and the Gulf countries, and Qatar is proud of Pakistan’s achievements.
According to the statement, President Zardari invited the Emir of Qatar to visit Pakistan, which he accepted, and he announced that he would visit Pakistan early next year.
