Barrister Gohar, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, stated that the government has introduced the amendment bill, yet no one has seen its actual details or structure so far. He said that the NFC Award has never been altered in the past, and nothing should be done without taking all provinces into confidence.
Meanwhile, lawyer Salman Akram Raja strongly rejected the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, saying that no constitutional amendment can be passed by what he referred to as a “Form-47 Assembly.” He added that the points highlighted through Bilawal Bhutto’s recent tweet are extremely alarming, as Pakistan’s fundamental constitutional framework is being altered.
Salman Akram Raja further said that the concept of an independent judiciary is being dismantled through this amendment, and they will oppose it at every level.
Former senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar also reacted strongly to the proposed amendment, stating that he learned about it only after Bilawal Bhutto’s statement. He said that when constitutional benches were formed, the justification given was that it would improve the delivery of justice, but now it is unclear what is being done to the judiciary and why such changes are being pursued.
