A suspect allegedly involved in the desecration of the grave and abuse of the body of a 16-year-old girl in Bahawalpur has been killed in an alleged police encounter, authorities said. Police claim the suspect was hit by gunfire from his own accomplices during the exchange.
According to police officials, the teenage girl was buried on Sunday evening in the Khairpur Tamiwali area. However, on Monday morning, residents discovered that her grave had been disturbed and the body was missing, triggering panic and outrage in the area.
A police spokesperson said initial investigations revealed that the girl’s body was removed from the grave, allegedly subjected to desecration, and later dumped in nearby fields, where it was eventually recovered.
Police further claimed that the primary suspect was involved in practicing black magic. During a subsequent operation, an alleged encounter took place in which the suspect was killed, reportedly by gunfire from his own associates. Investigations into the circumstances of the encounter are ongoing.
Authorities stated that statements of the victim’s family members and residents are being recorded. Police are also investigating whether the girl died due to electrocution or if she was murdered, and all possibilities are being examined.
Police stated that further legal action will be taken after the forensic report is received, adding that those found responsible will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
