Following reports of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei in an attack by the United States and Israel, security has been placed on high alert in Karachi, and several major roads have been closed by placing containers as precautionary measures. Authorities stated that the steps were taken to maintain law and order.
The bridge from PIDC Chowk to MT Khan Road has been closed with containers, while traffic at Sultanabad on MT Khan Road has also been blocked. The route from Boat Basin to Mai Kolachi Bypass has similarly been sealed.
According to the traffic police, traffic movement from MT Khan Road to PIDC Road and up to the railway crossing on Mai Kolachi Road has been suspended. On Shahrah-e-Faisal, the track from FTC to Jinnah Hospital turn has also been closed for traffic.
Traffic police stated that Shahrah-e-Faisal near FTC has been shut for general traffic, and barriers have been placed on the road leading from FTC to Metropole. Vehicles approaching FTC are being diverted via a U-turn at Gora Qabristan towards Saddar.
Due to the closure of multiple roads, commuters heading to offices and other destinations are facing severe difficulties, and long queues of vehicles have formed on various routes.
