Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the privatization of loss-making state-owned enterprises remains one of the government’s top priorities.
Chairing a review meeting on the privatization of electricity distribution companies, the prime minister directed officials to accelerate the process while ensuring complete transparency.
He also emphasized the need for a strong regulatory framework after privatization to safeguard service quality and accountability.
Officials informed the meeting that the first phase of privatization would include the Islamabad, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad electricity distribution companies.
According to the briefing, invitations for expressions of interest have already been published in local and international newspapers, while the Cabinet Committee on Privatization has approved the transaction structure.
The meeting was also informed that investor roadshows would begin this month to attract interest from domestic and international investors, including those from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and China.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Power Minister Awais Leghari and other senior officials.
