Islamabad: A comprehensive audit by the Auditor General of Pakistan has uncovered financial irregularities and violations worth Rs7.02 billion in the Ministry of Water Resources and its subordinate organisations during the 2024-25 financial year.

According to the audit report, 112 administrative units of the ministry were reviewed, covering expenditures of Rs359.6 billion and receipts worth Rs194.2 billion.

The report said that against the irregularities identified by auditors, only Rs2.821 million was recovered between January and December, with the recovery also verified.

The latest audit report on the Ministry of Water Resources and its subordinate organisations identified serious weaknesses in internal control systems.

It also highlighted widespread violations of public procurement rules and administrative failures.

The audit reviewed the financial and administrative performance of several organisations operating under the ministry, including the Water and Power Development Authority.

The Auditor General’s report divided the identified financial irregularities and violations into seven major categories of institutional failure.
