British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced that three-time London Mayor Sadiq Khan will be awarded a life peerage.
Khan’s name is included in the latest list of nominees recommended for membership of the House of Lords.
According to Downing Street, King Charles has expressed his intention to approve the appointments of the new life peers.
Once the appointment is formalised, Sadiq Khan will become a member of the House of Lords, the upper chamber of the UK Parliament.
The House of Lords currently has 774 members and is regarded as one of the world’s largest legislative chambers.
Sadiq Khan was first elected Mayor of London in 2016 and has since won three consecutive terms in office.
