The United Kingdom is considering banning the sale of energy drinks to children under the age of 16, with the proposed restrictions expected to take effect from next April.
According to media reports, it would become illegal to sell energy drinks containing 150 milligrams or more of caffeine per litre to children under 16.
The proposed ban would apply to sales in shops, online stores, restaurants, cafés and other retail outlets.
Children under the age of 16 would also be prohibited from purchasing energy drinks through vending machines.
According to the reports, the measure is intended to reduce excessive caffeine consumption among young people.
The UK has also introduced restrictions and safety measures related to children’s use of social media.
