Gujranwala: Former Chief Minister of Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, to be presented in Gujranwala’s Anti-Corruption Court today on allegations of bribery in development projects.
According to details, former Chief Minister of Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, will be presented in court today in a corruption case. He was brought to court from the Regional Anti-Corruption Headquarters.
Pervaiz Elahi was transferred from Lahore to Gujranwala by the anti-corruption team last night. There are two cases registered against Pervaiz Elahi in the anti-corruption case, which include allegations of kickbacks in development projects.
The first case against Pervaiz Elahi was filed on April 27, 2023, in which he is accused of corruption amounting to 2 billion rupees in the Gujrat GT Road project.
On April 28, 2023, a second case was filed against Pervaiz Elahi, in which he was accused of taking a bribe of 5 million rupees in the construction of bridges and roofs on the Tachhattar Road. The court had revoked Pervaiz Elahi’s interim bail in both cases.
Yesterday, after being acquitted in the Gujrat Development Project corruption case, the former Chief Minister of Punjab was arrested in Gujranwala in an anti-corruption case.
It should be noted that the Lahore court had acquitted the former Chief Minister of Punjab in the Gujrat Development Project corruption case, stating that there was no evidence of corruption against Pervaiz Elahi. Since he was not wanted in any other case, he was released.
Subsequently, the Director-General of Anti-Corruption, Sohail Zafer Chatha, announced to challenge the decision, stating that the verdict goes against merit and important points were overlooked in the case. The national treasury has incurred losses exceeding billions of rupees due to irregularities in the projects.
