Lahore witnessed a crucial meeting to review preparations regarding potential floods and monsoon rains. The Chief Secretary of Punjab directed ensuring ample availability of tents and ration bags in affected areas amid the looming emergency.
Instructions were issued for the thorough cleaning of drains and sewerage lines to prevent urban flooding, with district administrations tasked with implementing flood emergency plans. The Health Department was instructed to ensure the availability of medicines and vaccines in hospitals and health centers.
Deputy Commissioners, accompanied by officials from the Irrigation Department, were directed to inspect closures on rivers. A detailed briefing was provided by the Director General of the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
During the meeting, it was informed that a 24-hour monitoring of water flow in rivers is underway to monitor weather conditions. Exercise drills have been completed with the participation of relevant departments across all districts.
Districts have been provided with tents, boats, life jackets, and dewatering pumps as per their requirements.
