Islamabad: The federal government has announced the establishment of Pakistan’s first Smart City Command and Control Center in the capital, marking a major step forward in the Smart Islamabad program. The project aims to harness cutting-edge technology to improve urban services and daily life in the city.
According to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, the pilot project has been estimated at Rs708.385 million, with an initial allocation of Rs250 million already approved. In the first phase, a dedicated command center, specialized software, and trained staff will be deployed.
The system will oversee smart traffic management, air quality monitoring, public transport operations, and waste management. For this purpose, modern sensors and devices will be installed across the city to provide real-time data directly to the command center.
Government documents highlight that the center will bring together officers from various departments under one roof, enabling more efficient service delivery and integrated city management.
Officials said the initiative is designed to build an AI-driven platform that will make urban living more transparent, safer, and easier for citizens. They also expressed confidence that the project will serve as a model for other major cities in Pakistan once successfully implemented in Islamabad.
