Bangladesh has imposed a ban on the broadcast of the Indian Premier League in the country, a day after announcing that it would not send its team to India for the T20 World Cup, further escalating the situation.
According to details, Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was released by the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders after receiving threats from Hindu extremist groups. Following the incident, the Bangladesh Cricket Board convened an emergency meeting and advised the government not to send the national team to India for the T20 World Cup due to serious security concerns.
Acting on the request of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, the sports adviser of Bangladesh announced a day earlier that the safety and security of players is the government’s top priority, and therefore, the team would not travel to India for the T20 World Cup.
Subsequently, the Bangladesh Cricket Board formally approached the International Cricket Council, requesting that Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup matches be shifted from India to Sri Lanka to ensure the safety of players.
In the latest development, the government of Bangladesh has now imposed a ban on the telecast of the Indian Premier League within the country. In an official statement, the government said that the ban on the Indian league has been enforced for an indefinite period.
